Spotify announced several upgrades to its mobile apps on May 28, aimed at making the service easier to use. These are relatively small changes, but they add up to meaningful quality-of-life improvements.
Playlist folders on mobile Playlist folders help keep a large library organized, but until now they could only be created and managed on desktop — mobile users could see them but not edit them. That has changed, and mobile users can now create and organize folders. This update is available for all users globally.
Bulk editing tools for playlists Users can now edit multiple tracks in a playlist at once. Previously, moving or removing songs required doing so one at a time. To access bulk editing, go to your playlist, tap Edit, then tap Select at the bottom of the screen. From there, selected tracks can be moved, removed, or dragged to a new position. Bulk playlist editing is available now for all users globally.
The return of bulk editing in the play queue In early 2025, Spotify removed the ability to bulk edit the play queue. That decision has since been reversed. To use the feature, go to your queue and tap Edit at the top right. Options include Move up and Remove. This feature is available now for Premium users globally.
Background downloads on iOS Music and podcasts can now continue downloading when the app is closed, making offline listening more reliable. A notification shows download progress while the app runs in the background. This feature is rolling out gradually for Premium users globally — if it isn’t available yet, it may appear in a later update.
Most features are live now, with bulk queue editing and background downloads limited to Premium subscribers.
