Despite Disney’s official statement earlier this month that “All Hulu subscribers will also continue to have access to the standalone app to stream their favorite Hulu content,” an internal memo suggests otherwise.

Business Insider reported that the document outlines Disney’s plan to migrate Hulu content and features into its Disney+ platform, potentially by the end of 2026. “The Hulu tech stack and app will be decommissioned after all users have transitioned” to Disney’s platform, the memo reportedly reads. Business Insider also cited Disney tech employees who claimed Hulu wasn’t receiving significant new features or development investment.

Disney has not hidden its intent to unify Hulu and Disney+ into a single app, but the leak contradicts the company’s recent public assurances that no such shutdown was planned.

One potential upside: Disney may continue offering separate Hulu subscriptions and bundle packages even after the standalone app disappears, which could mean existing Hulu subscribers wouldn’t necessarily be forced into a full Disney+ upgrade.
