Apple is reportedly redesigning the iPhone’s interface around a new version of Siri, with the update expected to be previewed at WWDC 2026. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has published an early look at the overhaul, including illustrations showing how Apple has reworked the iPhone’s interface to place the AI assistant more prominently. Gurman notes that Apple often tests multiple designs internally, and the final version — expected to be announced in June and released as early as September — could differ from what’s been described.

According to the report, Siri will now live inside the iPhone’s Dynamic Island. Users will still be able to wake the assistant by saying “Siri” or holding the power button, but Apple is also adding a new gesture: swiping down from the top center of the screen will open a “Search or Ask” interface that blends elements from iOS 26’s existing Search screen. The interface will include familiar features like Siri Suggestions — a list of eight recommended apps — alongside new capabilities such as launching apps, composing messages, adding calendar entries, and searching through notes.

“Results are displayed in a rich text card that pops out of the Dynamic Island,” Gurman explains. “Users can swipe down further to open a chatbot-style conversation inside the Siri app.” Apple is also said to be considering giving users access to third-party AI services, including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, through the same interface. As a result of Siri’s new central position, the Notification Center will move to a pull-down from the top left of the screen.

Apple will also offer a standalone Siri app intended to compete with ChatGPT and Claude, supporting both text and voice conversation, along with photo and document uploads and browsable conversation history.

Siri is also set to be more deeply integrated into the Camera and Photos apps. A new mode will replace the existing Visual Intelligence feature, letting users photograph something and run it through Google reverse image search or a third-party AI for analysis. The Photos app will reportedly gain “Reframe” and “Extend” tools for adjusting image perspective and generating content beyond a photo’s original frame.

The new Siri is described as being capable of searching the web and drawing on screen context and personal information to complete tasks. Gurman writes that users will be able to ask Siri to check their availability before scheduling appointments and flag scheduling conflicts.

Earlier this year, Apple confirmed plans to use Google’s Gemini models to help power the updated Siri. The announcement followed widespread criticism after The Information reported that the Siri demo shown at WWDC 2024 had functioned more as a concept video than a live demonstration of working software.
